A family was held hostage on Tuesday night at their home in Bahati, Nakuru County.

The 9-hour ordeal saw the family suffer at the hands of the ruthless gang.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the 6-man gang stormed the house at around 9 pm and fled just before 6 am.

The seven-member family comprising parents, three grandchildren, a daughter, and a housekeeper, was brutally tortured before being tied up.

"They stormed the house where a seven-member family were enjoying their favorite TV program," read the DCI's statement.

The gang made off with various valuable items, including four television sets, four gas cylinders, three phones, a fridge, a laptop, a bicycle, a mortar, and other clothing.

"They loaded the items into the family's mini-van, which they used to stage the daring escape." the statement added.

In addition, the robbers transferred Ksh 141 800 from both their phone and bank accounts.

The family reported the incident to the Bahati Police Station, who immediately launched an investigation to net the perpetrators.

The critically injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, investigators are working around the clock to recover all the stolen items.

"As the injured man continues to recuperate at a local hospital, efforts are being made to recover the stolen valuables and effect the arrest of the suspects." the DCI said.

Robbery with violence is punishable by law and can result in a life sentence.
